5-Year-Old Killed By Tractor-Trailer In Andover Crosswalk: Report

Multiple people in a crosswalk at the time of a tractor-trailer crash, but one person was struck and killed, officials say.

911 calls reported that a pedestrian had been hit by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Elm and Main Streets at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, according to the Andover Police Department. 

The pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was 5 years old, according to an updated story by Daily Voice.

The other people who were in the crosswalk at the time of the incident were not hit by the vehicle but were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. 

The truck driver stopped and is cooperating with police. 

The victims name has not been released while next-of-kin are notified, according to the Essex County District Attorney.

The driver's identity will likely be withheld until final decisions about charges and citations have been made.
